Green Hills Software's MULTI® Debugger Solution Selected by Ericsson

MULTI debugger to be used by Ericsson for telecommunications infrastructure programs

Santa Barbara, CA. September 24, 2002 -- Green Hills Software, Inc., a leading supplier of embedded software development solutions, announced that Ericsson AB has selected Green Hills Software's MULTI® 2000 debugger for use in telecommunications programs aimed at delivering new mobile network solutions worldwide. Ericsson is using MULTI 2000 to develop generic communications platforms for applications such as switches, routers, RNCs and Base Transceiver Stations.

"We are very pleased to have been selected by Ericsson for this critical platform, and look forward to continuing to provide Ericsson developers with the very best development tools in the industry," said John Carbone, Green Hills Software's vice president of marketing. "This is clear evidence of our ability to satisfy a wide range of complex development needs in a multi-phase program."

MULTI supports full run-mode and stop-mode debugging. Run-mode debugging enables developers to stop and debug one or more tasks while the remaining tasks, and the kernel, continue to run. This enables the running system to be debugged while continuing to process interrupts and transfer data. MULTI is also unique in that it enables Ericsson engineers to debug running, fielded systems using non-intrusive tracepoints. This makes it possible to collect valuable information while the system is running, a critical requirement for telecommunications systems that must operate continuously. Tracepoints also guard against accidental stoppage of the system, which can happen with breakpoints, and can be utilized in either an attended or unattended manner.

MULTI is fully integrated with Rational Software's Rose RealTime UML modeling system at both the RTOS and debugger levels. Rose RealTime simplifies development and promotes code reuse by enabling designers to specify their applications using high-level models, and automatically generating the C code for those models. MULTI is then used to compile and debug this code for optimal execution on the target system. To enhance the debug process, MULTI supports coordinated debugger breakpoints between the generated C/C++ source code and the UML model, enabling developers to simultaneously debug within either the UML model or actual source code.

MULTI features the industry's fastest and most efficient optimizing C/C++ compilers. MULTI can also be used to debug code produced by GNU C/C++ and Diab C/C++ compilers that use standard ELF/DWARF formats.
