Green Hills Software Tailors MULTI 4.0 to Latest StarCore 16-bit DSPs

SANTA BARBARA, CA — October 13, 2003 —  Green Hills Software, Inc., the technology leader in real-time operating systems and embedded software development tools, today announced versions of its Optimizing C and C++ Compiler and MULTI 4.0 integrated development environment (IDE) specifically tailored to the SC1200 and SC1400, the latest high-performance digital signal processing (DSP) cores from StarCore LLC. Both synthesizable, scalable DSP cores are aimed squarely at the highly competitive communications market which includes cellular handsets and base stations, and consumer electronics.

By introducing development tools for these just-announced DSP cores, Green Hills Software ensures that the designers who use them will achieve dramatic productivity gains and returns on their software investments.

"By bringing Green Hills Software's industry-leading, productivity-boosting tools to bear on StarCore's exciting new DSP cores, we are able to give designers of embedded wireless products yet another path to success in this blazingly fast-paced and highly competitive market," said David Kleidermacher, vice president of engineering at Green Hills Software.

For its part, the MULTI 4.0 graphical IDE for StarCore's SC1200 and SC1400 provides embedded-product developers with an arsenal of productivity-enhancing features, including powerful data visualization, workspace management and low-level, bare-board debugging. MULTI 4.0, which runs on Windows and Unix platforms, unites advanced high- and low-level development tools into one advanced, feature-rich environment. For example, the MULTI debugger is able to load, control, debug and test a target system without prior board initialization, real-time operating system or even a ROM monitor.

Also, MULTI's Simsc instruction-set simulator interpretively executes StarCore programs on the host platform before target hardware is available. Simsc is a cycle-accurate simulator that includes full debugging features, host I/O capability, command window, extended profiling and hardware breakpoints.

Moreover, future versions of the MULTI IDE for StarCore's two new DSPs promise to take advantage of that IDE's seamless integration with Green Hills Software's recently announced TimeMachine debugger and SuperTrace Probe, as well as provide support for forthcoming reference hardware and software products.

"Green Hills Software's decision to support our high-performance SC1200 and SC1400 DSP cores gives embedded system designers the software development tools they need to fully exploit the competitive edge offered by these two processors," said Dr. Brian Dietrich, tools manager for StarCore LLC. "The blend of our synthesizable cores and Green Hills' productivity-boosting tools amounts to a solid one-two punch for delivering knockout products in the wireless communications arena."

The SC1200 and SC1400 DSP cores are the basis for a family of licensable, fully synthesizable, platform products from StarCore LLC.

Availability

Green Hills Software's MULTI 4.0 IDE is scheduled for shipment during Q4 of this year.
