The Degraded Visual Environment Pilotage System (DVEPS) from Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) enables helicopters to land safely even with rotor wash blowing up a cloud of dust, sand, or snow. DVEPS combines advanced LiDAR and infrared sensors with a multi-resolution terrain database into a vision display for the pilot. SNC selected the INTEGRITY®-178 tuMP™ RTOS for its long pedigree in flight systems requiring DO-178B/C, its ability to safely run applications on different processor cores, and its broad support for high-performance multicore processors, graphical processing units (GPUs), and safety-critical GPU drivers.
