Green Hills Software Launches Embedded Virtualization Business Unit

Embedded Software Leader Focuses on Virtualization Based on the Proven INTEGRITY Real-Time Operating System

EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE, BOSTON, MA — September 22, 2009—Green Hills Software, Inc., the largest independent vendor of embedded software solutions, today announced its new Embedded Virtualization Business Unit, representing a significant investment and commitment to virtualization in the embedded and special-purpose computing market. The business unit’s flagship product, INTEGRITY® Secure Virtualization (ISV), supports hosting of Windows, Linux, VxWorks and other general purpose operating systems in secure virtual containers on ARM, Intel, Power and other processor architectures.

"For more than 10 years, Raytheon has been a leader delivering cross-domain security solutions to meet our customers' diverse needs," remarked Steve Hawkins, vice president of Raytheon Information Security Solutions. "Green Hills is a longtime valuable partner with Raytheon, and we are excited about the capabilities Green Hills secure virtualization will bring to our next-generation cross-domain technologies."

"The need for virtualization has grown beyond the enterprise markets with increasing adoption in traditional embedded markets such as networking, automotive, medical, industrial controls, and mobile computing," commented Dan O'Dowd, founder and chief executive officer of Green Hills Software. "Only Green Hills offers a proven secure virtualization solution. With this new corporate commitment, we are bringing the benefits of military-grade security, an open flexible architecture, small footprint and real-time performance to commercial markets."

First deployed in 2003, INTEGRITY Secure Virtualization delivers a unique hybrid architecture that extends the safety and security-certified INTEGRITY real-time operating system technology to enable safe execution of trusted real-time critical software side-by-side with untrusted applications running on general purpose operating systems.

  • advanced multicore development and debug tools that configure, build and analyze software in a virtualization system
  • a flexible hybrid virtualization architecture supporting real-time application requirements as well as general purpose operating systems, including Linux, Windows, VxWorks and others
  • a comprehensive middleware software suite providing networking, graphics and connectivity
  • expert engineering services focused on complete integration and delivery to enable rapid adoption, highest reliability and fastest time-to-market

"With increasing pressure to lower cost of manufacturing and increase functionality, device developers are turning to new multicore architectures and virtualization. Green Hills INTEGRITY Secure Virtualization offers these customers a proven virtualization solution that maximizes reliability and real-time performance in a flexible configurable architecture," commented Gordon Jones, vice president of Green Hills Software’s Embedded Virtualization Business Unit. "We have developed engineering and business partnerships with ARM, Freescale, Intel, Marvell, Texas Instruments and others to enable broad market reach and support for a broad range of customer needs."
