Freescale Leverages Green Hills Tools for AUTOSAR Software

AUTOSAR Microcontroller Abstraction Layer (MCAL) and Operating System Realize Improved Efficiency

SAE WORLD CONGRESS, DETROIT, MI—April 14, 2008—Green Hills Software, Inc., the technology leader in device software optimization (DSO) and real-time operating systems (RTOS), today announced that Freescale Semiconductor is developing and deploying AUTOSAR-compliant software for the MPC551x automotive microcontroller family with Green Hills Software’s MULTI development tools for Power Architecture™ technology. Green Hills Software’s development tools enable developers to create high-performance, small-footprint, highly reliable software in the least amount of time and at the lowest cost.

"Freescale has worked closely with Green Hills Software for many years to ensure that automotive customers can achieve outstanding performance, minimal footprint and production-grade quality software running on Freescale’s Automotive 32-bit MPC55xx Power Architecture® microcontroller families," said Denis Griot, chairman of Freescale EMEA and the company’s global automotive marketing lead. "Green Hills delivers exceptional code efficiency with its Power Architecture® compilers and toolchain – a key ingredient for the success of our AUTOSAR software."

"As the automotive world transitions to the AUTOSAR standard, Freescale has taken on a leadership role in providing AUTOSAR-compliant software to improve time-to-market for automotive developers,” stated David Kleidermacher, chief technology officer, Green Hills Software. “We are pleased that Freescale selected the Green Hills tools to maximize the efficiency and performance of this important software solution."

Green Hills Software Development Tools
Carmakers and their tier-1 suppliers throughout the world have sold millions of automobiles and trucks with embedded microprocessors running software built with Green Hills Software’s tools, because they help ensure the quality, performance, and cost-efficiency of embedded software. With more than ten thousand users, such as developers at Ford and Toyota, the MULTI integrated development environment is a proven technology for multicore software development. Freescale regularly chooses the Green Hills compilers to benchmark MCU performance against the Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium (EEMBC) suite. The Green Hills development tool suite also includes the DoubleCheck™ static analyzer and a high speed virtual prototyping environment.

About Freescale’s AUTOSAR Software
As the world’s No. 1 supplier of automotive microcontrollers, Freescale is creating AUTOSAR-compliant software to help automotive developers face the challenge of soaring software content in automotive system designs coupled with ever tighter development deadlines. Freescale’s software includes a comprehensive suite of optimized drivers that comprise the AUTOSAR Microcontroller Abstraction Layer (MCAL), as well as an AUTOSAR Real Time Operating System (RTOS). Automotive developers following the AUTOSAR standard can thus remove porting and driver work from their development schedules and focus on integration and application software development. The goal is to achieve improved cost efficiency, ease of use, reduced development and integration time, and increased quality for the automotive electronic controller unit (ECU) supplier. The Freescale AUTOSAR software offering is expected to proliferate across 32-bit and 16-bit MCU families over the next few months.
