EEMBC Announces Benchmark Scores for AMCC’s PowerPC® 440EP Processor

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif.—July 11, 2005The Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium (EEMBC) today announced that benchmark scores are now available for Applied Micro Circuits Corporation’s (AMCC) [NASDAQ:AMCC] 667 MHz and 533 MHz PowerPC 440EP processors. These EEMBC® benchmark scores will aid designers in selecting high-performance system-on-chip (SoC) processors.

The new 440EP processor scores will allow designers to make detailed comparisons between the 533 MHz and 667 MHz 440EP processor and other similar processors, which were tested in an out-of-the-box environment using a PowerPC 4.0.5 compiler from Green Hills Software, Inc.

Delivering performance and a rich mix of features, AMCC’s 440EP processor addresses a wide range of applications including imaging, wireless access, industrial control and networking. AMCC’s PowerPC 440EP processor features combine 64K L1 caches, 100-133 MHz IBM CoreConnect™ bus technology, Nand Flash support, and a single/double-precision floating point unit. On-chip peripherals include 32-bit DDR266 SDRAM, two integrated 10/100 Ethernet ports, USB, UARTs, IIC, SPI, and PCI.

“Our highly integrated 440EP processor is a low-cost solution for applications from wireless access to multi-function printers,” said Sam Fuller, vice president of marketing, AMCC Embedded Products Group. “Application code compatibility with other PowerPC processors means our customers can bring products to market quickly and at a low cost to satisfy changing needs. And to help our customers further accelerate their system development time, we have recently introduced a new 440EP evaluation kit. The kit provides users with a comprehensive set of resources including a custom-designed evaluation board, industry-standard software development tools, sample applications, system-level benchmarks and hardware design files.”

“When you combine the performance of AMCC’s 440EP processor with the efficiency of Green Hills compilers, the results are impressive,” said Markus Levy, EEMBC president. “These scores will provide designers with additional objective data to help in selecting the optimal processor for their given application.”
