Green Hills Software Announces velOSity Support for Renesas Technology’s SH726x SuperH RISC Microcontrollers

Ideal Fit for High-Volume, Automotive-Grade, Signal Processing and Control Applications

EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE, BOSTON, MA —September 19, 2007—Green Hills Software, Inc., the technology leader in device software optimization (DSO) and real-time operating systems (RTOS), today announced that the Green Hills product suite is now available for the Renesas SH726x series of SuperH microcontrollers. Included in Green Hills Software’s product family are the MULTI integrated development environment, TimeMachine tool suite, Green Hills compilers, DoubleCheck static analysis tools, velOSity royalty-free real-time operating system, and Green Hills Probes.

This added support brings mature end-to-end development solutions to the Renesas SH7261 and SH7263 single-chip microcontrollers. It enables car infotainment and home audio system developers to help reduce their cost of software development and shorten time-to-market for their car infotainment, home audio and similar digital audio systems executing on the advanced SuperH microcontroller.

“We are pleased that we now can offer the industry leading Green Hills development suite to our customers for our SH726x series of microcontrollers. Their end-to-end software development solutions bring a much needed advancement in product development that our customers have been demanding,” said Paul Sykes, segment marketing manager, automotive business unit, Renesas Technology America, Inc. “This proven portfolio of tools and operating systems optimized for the SH726x microcontrollers allows rapid deployment of leading performance for low-cost digital audio and infotainment products.”

The Green Hills portfolio of products for the SH726x microcontroller series comes from 25 years of experience providing development tools and 10 years of providing RTOSes. Green Hills products make it easy for software developers to utilize the silicon’s optimizations and features while reducing time-to-market and improving the quality and performance of code running in the end product. The portfolio components include:

  • MULTI integrated development environment – the industry’s leading integrated development environment for multicore development and debugging with many standard features for finding software bugs early in the development process
  • TimeMachine tool suite – the revolutionary back-in-time tool suite that gives embedded software developers unprecedented visibility to see and fix software flaws –with zero target code instrumentation!
  • DoubleCheck static analysis tool suite – seamlessly integrated with MULTI to allow easy, rapid analysis of your code, finding bugs before they have a chance to infest your target
  • Green Hills C/C++ and MISRA C compilers for the SuperH RISC cores with numerous SH-2A optimizations designed to exploit the core’s characteristics to generate the fastest and smallest code in the industry
  • velOSity real-time operating system – providing industry-leading deterministic performance, small footprint (less than 12 KB), reference BSP support, and middleware offering for automotive-grade, cost-sensitive devices. Available middleware includes:
    • File Systems (DOS/FAT, wear-leveling FLASH, ISO9660, CIFS, NFS)
    • Networking (TCP/IP v4/v6 and applications, wireless, security)
    • USB 2.0 Host and Device stack with class driver support for mass storage, HUB, keyboard, mouse and communications
  • Green Hills Probe and SuperTrace Probe – providing reliable and efficient debugging with the industry’s fastest download speeds

“Advanced, single-chip solutions are becoming a requirement to run today’s complex embedded devices,” commented Dan O’Dowd, founder and chief executive officer of Green Hills Software. “Renesas Technology’s SH7260 microcontroller’s unique blend of performance and integrated features allows customers to consolidate distributed functionality into one device. Now with the availability of Green Hills solutions, these customers can be more effective in their development and debugging while realizing per unit cost savings and delivering on their time-to-market goals.”

About the SH726x microcontroller series
The SH7261 incorporates an SH-2A CPU core and features a floating point unit (FPU) capability for further improved signal processing performance. This is a high-performance microcontroller incorporating peripheral functions suitable for car infotainment and home audio systems such as a CD-ROM decoder, serial sound interface, and CAN controller and an improved timer unit that is also suitable for industrial applications. The SH7263 is a high-performance microcontroller built on a powerful SH2A-FPU core. This microcontroller operates at a maximum operating frequency of 200MHz. In addition, it incorporates a USB 2.0 host/function module, a LCD controller and a NAND flash controller. The SH7263 is ideal for use in digital audio and infotainment systems with higher performance and sophisticated functions.
