Green Hills Software Expands Software Development Solution to i.MX27

Green Hills Software Tools and Operating Systems Available for Latest Freescale Mobile Multimedia Applications Processor

Freescale Mobile Multimedia Applications ProcessorFREESCALE TECHNOLOGY FORUM, ORLANDO, FL —June 27, 2007
Green Hills Software, Inc., the technology leader in device software optimization (DSO) and real-time operating systems (RTOS), today announced that its product suite, including the MULTI integrated development environment, µ-velOSity royalty-free real-time operating system, TimeMachine tool suite, Green Hills compilers, and Green Hills Probe are now available for the Freescale i.MX27 multimedia applications processor. This new support enables customers to reduce their cost of software development and shorten the time-to-market for their cordless and mobile phones, healthcare equipment, intelligent remote controls, point-of-sale terminals and other products based on the i.MX27 processor.

“Green Hills Software is a core component of the Freescale ecosystem. This is proven with their portfolio expansion to include a comprehensive solution of tools and operating systems for our latest mobile multimedia processor, the i.MX27,” said Aaron Shagrin, director of business development, Freescale. “The collaboration between Green Hills and Freescale demonstrates our commitment to providing customers with the right solutions at the right time.”

At the Freescale annual technology forum in Orlando, Freescale’s Wireless Developer Network recognized Green Hills Software as the Tools Partner of the Year. Green Hills was honored for demonstrating strong coverage for the i.MX family with their industry-recognized family of tool products including: MULTI® and TimeMachine™ environments, INTEGRITY® family of operating systems, and hardware probes. Additionally, Freescale recognizes Green Hills support of Freescale and its customers illustrated by technical expertise and flexibility that provides leading-edge tools solutions for the i.MX family.

The Green Hills portfolio for the i.MX27 processor comes from 25 years of experience providing development tools and RTOSes that make it easy for software developers to utilize the silicon’s optimizations while reducing their time-to-market and improving the quality and security of code running in the end product. Portfolio components include:

  • MULTI integrated development environment and TimeMachine tool suite – the revolutionary back-in-time tool suite that gives embedded software developers unprecedented visibility to see and fix software flaws
  • Green Hills C/C++compilers for the ARM926EJ-S™ core – hundreds of optimizations designed to exploit the core’s characteristics to generate the fastest and smallest code in the industry
  • µ-velOSity real-time operating system – providing industry-leading performance, minimal memory (less than 1.6 KB) and power-saving footprint for resource-constrained and cost-sensitive devices
  • Green Hills Probe – providing reliable and efficient debugging using the i.MX27 JTAG port
  • Support for the INTEGRITY real-time operating system and SuperTrace Probe for on-chip trace via the i.MX27 ETM port is planned for later in 2007

“We are impressed with the performance, power, and multimedia capabilities of the i.MX27 processor,” commented Dan O’Dowd, founder and chief executive officer of Green Hills Software. “More embedded products rely on the combination of Freescale’s processors and Green Hills’ software for their success than any other solution.”

About the Freescale i.MX27 multimedia applications processor
The i.MX27 processor was created in response to the needs of design engineers tasked with pushing the performance envelope, packing in a lot of connectivity options and providing robust security in mobile device designs. Derived from the popular i.MX21 processor and based on the ARM926EJ-S core, the i.MX27 processor is the next step toward high-definition video in handhelds with the addition of an H.264 hardware codec for D1 high resolution video processing. An Ethernet 10/100 MAC, security, USB plug-and-play connectivity, and more power management features make the i.MX27 processor an excellent choice for video and voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) cordless and mobile phones, intelligent remote controls, point-of-sale terminals and many other consumer, industrial and general purpose applications.
