Green Hills Software's INTEGRITY RTOS Available For Artesyn Technologies' PMC Telecom Modules

Provides ideal platform for adding high-availability control, packet, and protocol processing to telecom systems

MADISON, WI. December 2, 2003- Artesyn Communication Products, a subsidiary of Artesyn Technologies (NASDAQ:ATSN), today announced the availability of Green Hills Software's INTEGRITY® real-time operating system (RTOS) for Artesyn's line of PowerPC-based Processor PMC (PrPMC) telecom modules. Artesyn's PMC modules, together with Green Hills' high-availability INTEGRITY RTOS, provide a secure high-availability platform for adding high-performance control, packet, and protocol processing to a broad range of telecom systems.

Artesyn's PowerPC-based PMC modules make it easy for telecom OEMs to add processing power to telecom systems equipped with PMC expansion sites. The modules make ideal control plane processors for optical and wireless infrastructure. They're also ideal for augmenting packet processing and routing performance in voice gateways, and for enhancing protocol processing performance in SS7 and SIGTRAN signaling control points and gateways.

INTEGRITY will initially be available for Artesyn's PowerPC-based PM/PPC-750F module. Featuring a 700-MHz IBM PowerPC 750FX™ microprocessor, the PM/PPC-750F provides up to 512 Mbytes of SDRAM, three 10/100 Ethernet ports, two asynchronous serial ports, and an I2C-based system management interface. The module also features an eight-channel DMA controller, which facilitates high-speed data movement between memory and I/O resources with minimal CPU intervention.

The PM/PMC-750F can be installed on any carrier card that provides PMC expansion sites, including standard CompactPCI (cPCI) and cPCI/Packet Switching Backplane (cPSB) carrier cards, and proprietary baseboards. The PM/PPC-750F works out of the box with Artesyn's Katana750i cPSB processor blade, which features an 800-MHz PowerPC 750FX processor, up to one Gbyte of SDRAM, two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and an I2C-based PICMG 2.9 Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI).

INTEGRITY is a fast, deterministic, royalty-free RTOS designed for applications that require high performance and maximum reliability. Utilizing the hardware memory protection facilities of the PowerPC's memory management unit (MMU), INTEGRITY builds a firewall between the kernel and user tasks that prevents errant or malicious code from corrupting user data, the kernel, interprocess communications, device drivers and other user tasks. INTEGRITY also enhances reliability and determinism by running with interrupts continuously enabled and guaranteeing access to the CPU and memory for critical tasks.

"PMC provides an excellent form factor for building modular telecom systems that can be upgraded with new hardware and software functionality without having to replace major subsystems," said Jeff Durst, director of product marketing at Artesyn Communication Products. "Artesyn PMC modules equipped with INTEGRITY make it easy for designers of high-availability telecom systems to significantly boost control and packet processing performance for applications ranging from softswitches and signaling control points to base station controllers and voice gateways."

"Artesyn PMC modules equipped with INTEGRITY should prove very attractive to telecom OEMs who place a premium on high reliability, availability, and security," added Dan Mender, director of INTEGRITY business development at Green Hills Software. "INTEGRITY's memory protection and hard real-time characteristics make it a perfect fit for the high-performance computing and I/O facilities available on Artesyn's modules. We look forward to working with Artesyn to make INTEGRITY available for Artesyn's full line of PMC modules."
