Green Hills Software Supports Intel® Atom™ Processor N270

Embedded Software Veteran Brings Proven and Certified RTOS and Tools

SANTA BARBARA, CA—September 25, 2008—Green Hills Software, Inc., the technology leader in device software optimization (DSO) and real-time operating systems (RTOS), today announced the immediate availability of its embedded software development solution for the Intel® Atom™ processor N270. The Green Hills Software solution includes the INTEGRITY® real-time operating system, MULTI® integrated development environment (IDE), optimizing C/C++ compilers, and DoubleCheck™ static analyzer. Building on more than 25 years of experience in the embedded market, Green Hills Software’s launch of INTEGRITY for the Intel Atom processor N270 will enable customers to create and deploy reliable, high-performance products for industrial control, mobile thin clients, HMI (Human Machine Interface) and print imaging in the least amount of time and at the lowest cost.

"We are pleased to support the Intel Atom processor N270," commented David Kleidermacher, chief technology officer, Green Hills Software. "Modern embedded system designs place ambitious performance-per-watt and time-to-market demands on hardware and software designers. The combination of INTEGRITY and the N270 provides a compelling solution to this challenge."

"The Intel Atom processor N270 helps cost-effectively meet development challenges and speed time-to-market with a 7-year long lifecycle support for the embedded marketplace," said Jonathan Luse, director of marketing, Low Power Embedded Products Division, Intel. "The N270 enables Green Hills Software to provide power-optimized tools and operating systems to its customers across the industrial, consumer and imaging markets."

INTEGRITY for the Intel Atom processor N270
The INTEGRITY RTOS’ unique and modern technology achieves unprecedented levels of reliability, availability, and certification for applications in industrial control, transportation, imaging, mobile thin clients, medical, aerospace, and other industries. For example, INTEGRITY is the foundation for Green Hills Software’s Platform for Industrial Safety, with certification by TÜV to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) EN 61508 standard at Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL3).

The INTEGRITY RTOS separation architecture allows customers the flexibility to run multiple protocols as separate, independent applications. The innovative secure partitioning capability of INTEGRITY enables software—from non safety-related through safety-critical—to be partitioned on a single processor. Each partition can then be certified at its appropriate Safety Integrity Level, eliminating the need for separate physical systems or certification of code beyond the required safety level.

In addition to the INTEGRITY real-time operating system, the integrated Green Hills software development solution for the Intel Atom processor N270 consists of the following components:

  • Comprehensive portfolio of embedded communication stacks and middleware
  • MULTI integrated development environment – providing the leading software development tool set for embedded software developers
  • Green Hills Optimized C/C++ compilers – generating high-quality and efficient code for Intel architecture
  • DoubleCheck integrated static analyzer – increasing software reliability and reducing time-to-market by eradicating more software defects early in the development process

The Intel Atom processor N270, based on Intel 45nm Hi-k metal gate silicon technology, is power-optimized and delivers robust performance-per-watt for cost-effective embedded solutions. This single-core processor is validated with the Intel 82945GSE Graphics Memory Controller Hub and Intel I/O Controller Hub 7-M. The chipset features power-efficient graphics with an integrated 32-bit 3D graphics engine based on Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 architecture with SDVO, LVDS, CRT, and TV-Out display ports. It provides rich I/O capabilities and flexibility via high-bandwidth interfaces such as PCI Express, PCI, Serial ATA, and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connectivity. It also includes a single channel for 400/533 MHz DDR2 system memory (SODIMM or memory down), and Intel High Definition Audio interface.
