Green Hills Platform for Industrial Safety Expands Fieldbus Support across Wide Range of Freescale Processors

Green Hills Royalty-free RTOSes Available for Freescale’s Microprocessors Based on Power Architecture Technology and ColdFire Devices

FREESCALE TECHNOLOGY FORUM, MUNICH, GERMANY —October 16, 2007— Green Hills Software, Inc., the technology leader in device software optimization (DSO) and real-time operating systems (RTOS), today announced their plans to add support for CANopen, IEEE® 1588, EtherNet/IP™ and PROFINET protocols for the Green Hills royalty-free RTOSes running on a myriad of Freescale’s embedded microprocessors and microcontrollers. This effort delivers powerful design flexibility, allowing customers to address per-unit-cost and time-to-market pressures with the widest range of options for proven, integrated communications solutions targeting the industrial, manufacturing, power systems and medical device markets.

“From safety-certified to small, simple RTOS offerings, Green Hills delivers a wide range of royalty-free operating systems for Freescale’s families of industrial-class microprocessors and microcontrollers,” said Bruno Baylac, director marketing for Freescale’s global consumer and industrial business. “With this extended suite of protocols, customers are given extensive flexibility in their product designs by allowing the selection of the right protocols, RTOSes, microcontrollers and embedded processors that satisfy unique feature requirements, performance, safety certifications and price points.”

This week, at the Freescale Technology Forum in Munich, Green Hills will be demonstrating how a central communications/gateway processor (the MPC8360) communicates with a master/slave CANopen combination of two independent ColdFire™ processors, providing a real-world demonstration of the INTEGRITY IEC 61508 SIL3 certified RTOS running on the Freescale PowerQUICC® processor-based Reference Design Kit (MPC8360E-RDK) in combination with INTEGRITY and µ-velOSity running on ColdFire devices executing the CANopen protocol stack.

The Green Hills Software Platform for Industrial Safety offers the following component support for the Freescale Power Architecture™ processors and ColdFire devices:

  • MULTI integrated development environment and TimeMachine tool suite – providing the industry leading tool set for embedded software developers
  • Green Hills C/C++ and MISRA C compilers – generating the fastest and smallest code in the industry
  • INTEGRITY and velOSity real-time operating systems (RTOS), with optional certification by TÜV to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) EN 61508 standard at Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL3)
    • Optional Safety Manual, SIL3 certification certificate, certification report and MULTI Confidence-from-Use report
  • µ-velOSity real-time operating system – providing industry leading performance, minimal memory (less than 1.6KB) and power-saving footprint for resource-constrained and cost-sensitive devices
  • Optional fieldbus support for EtherNet/IP, IEEE1588, CANopen, PROFINET and more
  • Optional middleware to support networking, Wi-Fi, USB, graphics, databases and more
  • Green Hills Probe – providing reliable and efficient debugging using the microprocessor’s JTAG port
  • Optional system/software consulting, development and certification services

“Freescale has a distinctive position in that it offers its customers a wide range and class of microprocessors from the communications-savvy 32-bit PowerQUICC processors to the growing family of highly integrated ColdFire devices,” said Dan Mender, director of business development, Green Hills Software. “The combination of these popular fieldbus protocols across a wide range and class of microprocessors and royalty-free operating systems further reduce product time-to-market while delivering optimum flexibility in device design.”

Availability
The Green Hills Platform for Industrial Safety is available now. These additional fieldbus protocols are planned to be commercially available for the Platform for Industrial Safety in Q4 2007.
