Santa Barbara, CA, November 11, 1999 - Enea OSE Systems announced today that they have formed a strategic
partnership with Green Hills Software to provide a complete development and
debugging solution for embedded systems. The partnership will encompass not only
product development, but also sales, marketing and support functions. The new
development system combines Green Hills Software's MULTI(r) 2000 IDE and Enea OSE
Systems' OSE(tm) Illuminator, offering support for distributed, high-availability systems.
The debugging capabilities include extensive support for "Run-mode Debugging" and
cover all system levels from source code to application, making it particularly useful in
complex communications systems. The system is available today.
"While industry-wide consolidation is creating giant suppliers who attempt to supply all
services, we are increasingly focused on strategic relationships where each party can
leverage unique expertise," said Lars Österberg, President, Enea OSE Systems.
"Green Hills and Enea OSE Systems both bring to the table a long history of solving
difficulties in the development of embedded telecommunications systems. Our
commitment to collaboration includes not only this integration, but also the exchange
of ideas and developments for a future road map supporting the PowerPC and other
processors."
"We are dedicated to entering the new millennium with fewer boundaries to
integration," said David Chandler, VP Sales, Green Hills Software. "Creating one highly
integrated environment for debugging is a giant step towards ending the
fragmentation that has proven so frustrating for embedded systems developers,
particularly in the high-end embedded telecom industry where Green Hills and OSE
have worked so effectively."
Both Enea OSE Systems and Green Hills Software have focused their efforts in the
telecommunications arena, creating software solutions for developers of high-end
embedded telecom systems. The OSE real-time operating system (RTOS) and Green
Hills' optimizing compilers, debuggers, and MULTI(r) Integrated Development
Environment are used in thousands of projects and millions of communications
products worldwide.
The OSE Illuminator provides application-level debugging for complex applications
that need to execute during the debug process, such as high-availability systems in
telecommunications. Illuminator also serves as a backplane connecting the tools
needed for embedded application development. Illuminator can be used in small,
single-CPU environments or large distributed systems using hundreds of CPUs.
Green Hills Software's MULTI 2000 automates all aspects of embedded software
development. Included in the MULTI IDE is a family of optimizing compilers (C, C++,
and EC++), source-level debugger, graphical browser, project builder execution
profiler, source and version control software, and run-time error checker.
About Enea OSE Systems
Enea OSE Systems is the technological leader for real-time operating systems and
development tools for building distributed and fault-tolerant embedded real-time
systems. Enea OSE Systems is a subsidiary of Enea Data, a Swedish company
founded in 1968 and listed on the Swedish Stock Exchange. With a work force of more
than 100 persons, the core of Enea OSE Systems' business has always been the
development of time-critical and highly reliable real-time operating systems and time
saving, efficient, development tools. Enea OSE Systems' customers are found within
the telecommunications, data communications, process control, automotive, defense,
biomedical technology and consumer electronic industries.
The OSE RTOS supports fault-tolerant systems that are designed to allow recovery
from hardware and software failures. OSE differs from other RTOSs by adopting
message-passing as its primary method of interprocess communication. Because of
its support for high-availability systems, OSE has a particularly significant impact in
the telecommunications industry. The OSE RTOS includes built-in safety features that
have qualified it for International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61508
certification. IEC 61508 for Functional Safety of Safety Related Systems is a standard
for safety-critical systems. In addition, the OSE RTOS is currently seeking certification
according to the stringent DO178-B safety standard.
