Green Hills Software, Inc. today announced the integration of its industry leading MULTI Development Environment with Orion Instruments' ADVice family of In-Circuit Emulators. The two companies have also announced joint technology development and cooperative marketing agreements that will make the MULTI/ADVice tandem available for a broad range of popular embedded CPUs, including Hitachi's SH-1, SH-2, SH-3, and the new SH-4; Fujitsu's SPARClite 83x and 93x; NEC's V810/V820/V830/V850/V851; Toshiba's TMP R4000, and Motorola's PowerPC, ColdFire, and 68K.

"We are pleased to have support from the leading software tools vendor for our customers in embedded systems markets," said Dennis Perry, President of Orion Instruments. "The MULTI Development Environment, coupled with our advanced Orion/ADViCE systems, provides a powerful high-end solution for embedded applications that offers unparalleled features and unsurpassed ease of use."

"The integration of MULTI with Orion's ADViCE products gives our customers a powerful off-the-shelf development and run-time environment for the most demanding real-time applications," added John Carbone, Green Hills' vice president of marketing.

Green Hills' MULTI environment and optimizing compilers provide a tightly integrated framework that automates every aspect of embedded software development, including editing, source-level debugging, program building, execution profiling, and project/version control. MULTI is ideal for both small and large workgroups, providing a uniform set of C, C++ and assembly language development capabilities that span Windows 95, Windows NT, and Unix host platforms.

ADViCE (ADVanced In-Circuit Emulator) is a full-speed, real-time in-circuit emulator. Triggered by a six-event multi-level sequencer, ADVice provides real-time analysis capabilities such as real-time trace, time-stamping, profiling, code coverage and performance analysis that simplify the tracking elusive real-time problems. ADViCE is available for a wide variety of 8-, 16-, and 32-bit CISC and RISC MPUs and MCUs, including those from Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Motorola, NEC, and Toshiba.

Green Hills and Orion will cooperate in the development and marketing of integrated solutions featuring Green Hills' MULTI and the Orion's ADViCE products. Green Hills engineers already have completed this integration for a variety of Orion/Yokogawa emulators. Orion, meanwhile, is developing GUI support for advanced trace, profiling, and triggering features that will make Orion/ADViCE emulators the easiest to use in the industry.

Green Hills and Orion have agreed to market integrated MULTI/ADVice solutions in North America through a variety of cooperative venues, including trade shows, advertising, joint sales presentations, and customer support. In addition, Green Hills plans to offer this new technology to its large installed base of Japanese customers through its exclusive distributor Advanced Data and Controls, Inc., (ADaC). ADViCE is manufactured and sold in Japan by Yokogawa Digital Computer. Together, the two companies will work closely to ensure that MULTI/ADVice solutions enjoys the same success in Japan as they do in North America.
