SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Sept. 17, 1996 - Green Hills Software, Inc., a worldwide leading developer of software development tools for 32 and 64-bit embedded systems, announced today the introduction of the Green Hills™ optimizing C, C++, and FORTRAN compilers and the MULTI® Software Development Environment for the Motorola ColdFire microprocessor family. Together, the Green Hills optimizing compilers and MULTI Software Development Environment is a complete and powerful suite of software tools for programmers developing ColdFire applications.

"As Motorola's platinum partner for several years now, we are pleased to continue our support for their newest product line, the ColdFire microprocessor family," stated Dan O'Dowd, president of Green Hills Software. "Combining Green Hills optimizing compilers and the MULTI Software Development Environment for Motorola's ColdFire microprocessors creates a unique and robust software/hardware solution that hasn't been available until now."

Based on the concept of variable-length RISC technology, ColdFire processors combine the architectural simplicity of conventional 32-bit fixed-length RISC with a memory-saving variable-length instruction set. The Green Hills™ Optimizing C, C++ and FORTRAN compilers provide the most advanced optimizing compilers for RISC processors. The compilers perform 100+ global and local optimization techniques that produce the fastest and most compact code. The compilers share common language front ends which allow easy migration of code between microprocessors. The MULTI Software Development Environment contains a comprehensive set of seamlessly integrated components for applications development. MULTI is comprised of a graphical program builder, state-of-the-art source-level debugger, program execution profiler, graphical object browser, built-in editor, version control system, source-code control and run-time error checking. The combination of these tools brings unique value to Green Hills' and Motorola's customers. Programmers can now develop ColdFire applications using a state-of-the art comprehensive suite of software development tools that includes everything needed to get products to market faster and within budget.

The Green Hills optimizing C, C++, and FORTRAN compilers and MULTI Software Development Environment for the ColdFire MCF5202, MCF5204, and MCF5206 microprocessors will be available in September 1996. Supported host platforms include Sun SPARC (SunOS and Solaris 2.4 and higher), HP 9000/700 (HP-UX), IBM RS/6000 (AIX), Alpha AXP (OSF/1), DECstation (Ultrix) platforms, Motorola PowerStack (AIX), and PC/Windows 3.1 and Windows 95.

The Green Hills ColdFire software development package contains a Green Hills optimizing C, C++ or Fortran compiler, cross assembler/linker, and the MULTI Software Development Environment including a ROM monitor package for a Motorola ColdFire M5202AN, M5204AN, or M5206AN board.
