SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Sept. 17, 1996 - As part of its tools
strategy, Chorus Systems, a leader in embedded operating system
technology, today announced a joint marketing and support agreement
with Green Hills Software. This agreement will provide Chorus
customers a broad range of development tools including Green Hills
industry leading C and C++
optimizing compilers,
tool chains, utility programs and the
MULTI® Development Environment.
This provides a complete development environment that includes a
comprehensive integrated tools solution second to none.
Green Hills has agreed to adapt its industry leading MULTI
Development environment to Chorus' advanced OS technology. This means
that customers will be able to use Green Hills tools to develop and
debug complex multi-threaded applications supported by Chorus from the
application code level down to the kernel execution level. This
technology will be available across a wide variety of platforms
including Sun and Solaris hosts with the SunSparc native Chorus
ClassiX simulator, in addition to targeting the 680x0, Motorola
PowerPC, Motorola Coldfire, MIPS, and Intel 80x86 microprocessor
families.
"The availability of the Green Hills optimizing compiler technology
coupled with the MULTI Development Environment is another critical
step in providing the best integrated development environment to
Chorus customers," said Fred Rehhausser, Chorus Systems vice president
marketing. "This level of integration is absolutely critical in
today's telecommunications, process control, and other embedded
systems markets."
"The addition of Chorus/OS to the family of real time operating
systems that Green Hills supports provides an extension of the MULTI
Development Environment that meets the demands of our most exacting
customers," said David Chandler, vice president of sales of Green
Hills Software. "This consolidates our position as the leading tools
vendor with application critical customers."
CHORUS/OS
Chorus/OS is a highly configurable,
richly featured real-time operating system. Users can easily tailor
Chorus/OS at a very fine grain level of real-time operating system
services to meet specific hardware and application requirements. The
"ComponentizedTM OS" architecture is industry unique
and allows Chorus/OS to coherently scale from very small 10K instances
to highly distributed, multiple-personality platforms including
support for POSIX, third party RTOSes, and/or legacy OSes. Chorus/OS
relaceable object-based components are selected as needed to customize
the real-time core executive. Hot application restart, fair-share
scheduling, and other high availability enablers provide the necessary
capability for mission critical embedded systems.
