SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 20, 1994 - Green Hills Software, Inc. announced today the introduction of the Green Hills optimizing C compiler and MULTI Development Environment for the PowerPC 601 and PowerPC 603 microprocessors. The Green Hills software tools provide users developing PowerPC-based embedded applications the most comprehensive suite of embedded software tools available today.

Dan O'Dowd, Green Hills Software president, stated: "Since our announcement last December 1, 1993 that Ford Motor Company selected the Green Hills PowerPC tools for their next generation of electronic controllers, we have seen a tremendous surge in the marketplace towards using the Green Hills PowerPC tools. Motorola Computer Group, today announced an OEM relationship with Green Hills. Motorola Computer Group will distribute the Green Hills PowerPC and 68K compilers and the MULTI Development Environment bundled with Motorola's newly announced VMEexec Release 4 real-time software development environment94. In addition, Integrated Systems, Inc. announced today that they will be distributing the Green Hills PowerPC tools with their PowerPC-based pSOSystem family." O'Dowd added, "Our large installed base of 68K and 88K customers will be able to migrate to the PowerPC easily and inexpensively. MULTI licenses, when under maintenance, are eligible for an update that provides full development and debugging support of PowerPC applications.

The Green Hills optimizing PowerPC C Compiler and MULTI Development Environment is currently available as a beta version hosted on Sun SPARC (SunOS and Solaris 2.3), HP 9000/700 (HP-UX), IBM RS/6000 (AIX), Alpha AXP (OSF/1), and DECstation (Ultrix) platforms. A PC (Microsoft Windows) hosted beta version of the PowerPC tools will be available November 1, 1994. The PowerPC software development package contains the Green Hills optimizing C compiler, cross assembler/linker, the MULTI Development Environment including a software instruction set simulator, and a ROM monitor package for the PowerPC 601 board. The Green Hills optimizing C++ compiler will be available in a beta version December 1, 1994.
