September 1, 2000 - Green Hills Software today announced that its MULTI® 2000 Integrated Development Environment (IDE) has been selected by Kb/TEL to develop embedded software for the Kb/E1 Broadband Wireless Access network. Software developed using MULTI will be used to provide protocol and modem control, as well as internal management for the Kb/E1 network. The software will run on a Motorola MPC860 processor under Green Hills' INTEGRITY real-time operating system.
The Kb/E1 system uses ultra-fast modems to provide up to 12 km of broadband connectivity via high-speed microwave links. Its true point-to-multipoint architecture for the 10GHz and 18GHz bands delivers powerful data communications, Internet connectivity, protocol conversion and network management to remote users at speeds up to 8 Mbps. This combination of high speed and long range makes the Kb/E1 network ideal for applications such as clear channel access, LAN interconnection and last mile access.

The MULTI 2000 IDE automates all aspects of software development for the MPC860 microprocessor. Featuring an integrated programming editor, source-level debugger, graphical program builder, and run-time error checker, MULTI 2000 also includes a version control system, instruction set simulators, performance profiler, and real-time EventAnalyzer™.
The heart of the MULTI environment is a source-level debugger with incremental debug capability that features process- and system-level debug capability. The debugger supports mixed assembly and high-level language formats, includes a language-sensitive expression evaluator, provides a separate debug window for each process, and provides special support for C++ (such as a Class Browser, object display and template debug capability) and X-Windows debugging. The MULTI 2000 debugger is fully RTOS aware, which enables designers to debug and tune their applications at a task level.
The MULTI EventAnalyzer builds on the baseline capabilities of the MULTI debugger, making it easier for programmers to decipher complex real-time interactions. The EventAnalyzer logs important events like semaphore calls, context switches, and interrupts on the target in real time. It then uploads this data to a host GUI for display. The GUI provides powerful navigation capabilities that enable programmers to search for and zoom in on particular events
The MULTI 2000 IDE features the industry's most advanced MPC860 C/C++ optimizing compiler. The scaleable C/C++ compiler lets programmers use switch options to select any subset of C++ they want, from bare bones C, to full-blown ANSI/ISO C++. The compiler also supports Embedded C++ (EC++), a dialect of C++ optimized for resource-constrained embedded applications that achieves the efficiency of C while preserving many of the best object-oriented features of C++.
