Real-Time Innovations and Green Hills Software
Partner to Provide First Standards-based DDS Platform
RTI's NDDS Publish-Subscribe Solution for Green Hills Software's INTEGRITY
RTOS Now
Available for Advanced Distributed Systems
SUNNYVALE and SANTA BARBARA, CA—December 15, 2004 - Real-Time
Innovations, Inc. (RTI), experts in the distribution of time-critical information,
and Green Hills Software, Inc., the leader in royalty-free real-time operating
systems (RTOS) and embedded software development tools, today announced a
standards-based data distribution platform for embedded applications demanding
total reliability and absolute security required by programs such as the
Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Electronic
Warfare Subsystem.
RTI’s Network Data Distribution Service (NDDS), the first commercially
available publish-subscribe middleware based on the Object Management Group’s
(OMG’s) Data Distribution Service (DDS) V1.0, has been integrated
with Green Hills Software’s INTEGRITY RTOS, the first operating system
to be certified under the “POSIX: Certified by IEEE and The Open
Group” program to the latest
IEEE 1003.1-2003 System Interfaces Product Standard (listed on the certification
register at http://get.posixcertified.ieee.org/register.html).
Dan Mender, Green Hills Software’s director of business development,
explained, “Green Hills Software’s INTEGRITY RTOS has proven
itself in many mission-critical systems. As an example, it has been mandated
by the JSF program because it provides the highest level of security, reliability
and performance requirements. With RTI’s NDDS support for fault-tolerant
and high-availability applications, the combination is a strong software
infrastructure solution for those developing distributed safety-critical
and mission-critical applications.”
NDDS is First Commercially Available DDS Implementation
A requirement common to most real-time distributed applications is the
need to pass data efficiently between different subsystem modules. These
modules may be on different processors or spread across multiple computers
connected through a transport mechanism such as Ethernet, shared memory
or a backplane such as VME. These subsystems gather and generate data through
interfaces with sensors, monitor and process data, or control and communicate
with other subsystems.
Under the OMG DDS standard, developers specify various quality of service
(QoS) parameters such as reliability versus best-effort delivery, expected
rates of publication and how long data is valid throughout the network.
Modules sending data become publishers and are only concerned with the
specific data type they communicate. Modules needing specific information
are subscribers and only need to know about the particular data they wish
to receive.
NDDS takes advantage of the capabilities inherent in the Data-Centric Publish-Subscribe
(DCPS) model to offer a high-quality implementation developed with the
requirements of real-time and embedded systems in mind. NDDS minimizes
the need for multiple data copies, resulting in increased performance.
Also, NDDS allows the application to pre-allocate resources, increasing
reliability and real-time determinism.
About INTEGRITY
The INTEGRITY RTOS provides a complete development solution for real-time,
mission-critical and safety-critical systems. Capable of meeting the industry’s
most demanding security and safety standards, the INTEGRITY RTOS is securely
partitioned, guaranteeing each task the resources it needs to run correctly
while fully protecting the operating system and user tasks from errant
and malicious code, including denial of service attacks, hackers, worms
and Trojan horses. It features advanced memory-protection capabilities,
an optional ARINC 653 partition scheduler, dynamic download, task- and
system-level debug, and a configurable real-time EventAnalyzer tool.
The INTEGRITY RTOS is built on Green Hills Software’s small and fast velOSity microkernel.
Both products share a rich set of device drivers, Board Support Packages
and middleware, including IPv4, IPv6, IPsec, SSL, SSH, Web server and graphics.
The ability to migrate seamlessly between the velOSity microkernel
and the INTEGRITY RTOS provides embedded software developers with unprecedented
scalability.
Availability
NDDS integrated with Green Hills Software’s INTEGRITY RTOS is immediately
available with full support and maintenance from RTI.
